Nuclear Radiation Detectors Application and Research Center (NÜRDAM)

With the increasing global use of nuclear applications, both military and civilian nuclear radiation usage are on the rise. Radiation detectors are crucial for ensuring safety across a broad range of applications, from the fuels used in nuclear power plants to the radiation sources used in hospitals for treatment purposes. Therefore, R&D efforts for the production of cost-effective domestic radiation detectors have become increasingly important. The Nuclear Radiation Detectors Application and Research Center (NÜRDAM) is dedicated to the development and production of radiation sensing systems in Turkey. It receives project-based support from organizations such as the Presidency of the Republic of Turkey's Strategy and Budget Department, the Eastern Marmara Development Agency, TÜBİTAK, and Bolu Abant İzzet Baysal University. NÜRDAM focuses on semiconductor, MEMS, and gas radiation detectors, and is also involved in the production of various sensor technologies, including temperature, gas, and UV sensors. It has a multidisciplinary structure with cooperation from many national and international institutions.

Our Fundamental Goals as a National and International Application and Research Center

  • To establish a technological infrastructure for the production and development of nuclear radiation detectors (sensors) and medical dosimeters.
  • To advance fundamental knowledge regarding production techniques, characterization, methods, and applications.
  • To develop new technologies for sensors and medical dosimeters.
  • To create synergies at both national and international levels by providing consultancy in nuclear radiation detectors, sensors, and medical dosimeters.
  • To train the necessary workforce for nuclear radiation detectors/sensors and medical dosimetry technologies.
  • To prepare national and international reports required in the field of nuclear radiation.
